Let’s start a useful thread.
I’m going to write a tip and you add another in the comments.
Tip #1 – write in sprints and marathons
Sometimes we can only write for a little while, and that’s OK.
500 words a day = 2,500 words a week = a (draft) novel in 8 months.
1,000 words a day = 5,000 words a week = a (draft) novel in 4 months.
2,000 words a day = 10,000 words a week = a (draft) novel in 2 months.
Sometimes we need to schedule in a focus week where our focus is not school, kids or housework but our writing project. Schedule it in – once a year, quarterly, monthly… it’s your time.
Tip #2 – life is research for your next book
Just because you haven’t penned anything yet, doesn’t mean you’re not writing. You’re just in the research phase 🙂
Tip #3 – marketing sells
We’ve all bought books that we didn’t read because they were poorly written or published. Yet, we bought them. Why? Marketing sells. Something about the advertising on the cover, poster or catalogue made you think you wanted it.
