You did it!
Whatever you achieved in November is enough. Be proud. A novel is never written in one sitting, but you’ve made a start – good for you!
But, what do you do with your manuscript once you have finished your first draft?
Walk away from it.
Take a break. Enjoy the month of celebrating Christmas, New Year, school holidays and whatever else is important to you.
Mark a date in your diary or on your calendar when you are going to return to it – when you return from holidays, while you are on your holiday, when the kids go back to school. It doesn’t matter, this is YOUR story.
Then, reread it. the reason for the break is so you come back to it refreshed and with a fresh set of eyes. You will start to read it as a reader and notice the gaps and errors. Fix them as you go. Then walk away again.
After your next edit, you may be ready to share it with a beta reader or critique group or an editor. You may with to pay for a Manuscript Assessment. Whatever your next step is, don’t expect your novel to be perfect yet, so be kind to yourself and lap up as much feedback as you can.
Have you considered your end goal for this story? Are you writing it for your kids? Do you want to publish it just for your inner circle? Do you want to publish and share it with the world of readers? Kani Consultants can help.
