John Franks

Avid teacher and researcher, John Franks has both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the University of Newcastle (UON). After 40 years of primary school teaching, he dedicates much of his time to his other passions – the arts. In 2020, John’s first book Memoirs (warts and all) of a Baby Boomer successfully sold out its first print run. His second book, Echoes, is a contemporary novel with a strong historical fiction element. John’s commitment to the Newcastle Theatre Company saw him awarded life-membership in 2011. John played for many years with the UON Wind Orchestra and currently conducts a small U3A orchestra in Lake Macquarie, New South Wales.

During the research process for this book, John’s passion for this part of history became a passion. Ask him questions about Threlkheld, he loves the topic.

Cathryn Marshall

New Zealand born Cathrine (Cate) Marshall now calls Australia home because it has more adventurous ghosts, and less of her own. Her first book Mokes, Mines, and Mayhem was published in 2008 and she has since retired to write her series of middle grade books, The Dancers.

Cate’s short stories have placed in competitions; and have been placed in several anthologies. She is an active member of her local Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAW) branch as well as being Vice President and Competition Secretary for the State Committee. Cate loves creating stories about the people and places she encounters (and ghosts she dreams of meeting).

Sandra Joy

Sandra Joy is an Australian author, born and raised in Singleton, NSW when it was a small country town. Sandra has been passionate about writing since she was a child. She worked on her first book, Salvation Through the Gift of Help, for twenty years in between working, raising children and helping her local community.

In 2018, Sandra retired from a career in office administration and returned to university to obtain a degree, majoring in Writing and Publishing. Living close to campus in the beautiful city of Newcastle, she loves the flexibility it affords her to fulfil her passion for writing and spending time with her three children and seven grandchildren.
