Kani Consultants changed direction in 2018 when deciding to support local author, Sandra Joy. Since then, Kani Consultants has evolved into a micropublisher, supporting local authors and instigating communal writing projects. Believing that everything we go through is for a reason, the mission of Kani Consultants is to use the experiences and skills we have to help other people – through words.

HELPING WORDS MATTER
Who is Sandra Joy?
In 2018, Sandra Joy decided to finish writing the book she had started twenty years earlier.
After attending the Newcastle Writers’ Festival, she made a promise to commit to writing and
developed the personal mantra to Live Like An Author.
From here, she started her studies at the University of Newcastle, and completed her Bachelor
of Arts in 2023.
In 2020, having self-published her first book, Salvation Through the Gift of Help, Sandra fell in
love with the publishing process and the dream of being a full-time author took a back seat – although she has now written nine books and plods along on others.
Her driving motivation is helping other people experience the JOY of unpacking their first
publication.
Who is Kani Consultants?
Kani Consultants is a micro independent publishing services provider. We publish anthologies and novels, children’s books and … well, just ask!
In 2021, Sandra published an anthology of uni students’ stories and saw the joy of others receiving their first publications. From this inspiration, Kani Consultants opened its doors to publishing the books of other authors as well.
Gradually building, we continue to work with many talented authors and other artists and proudly watch our catalogue grow.
In 2024, we spread our wings even further to make obvious our acceptance of all writers. We are proud to be associated with the NSW Senior’s Card. Wanting to be inclusive and accessible, our Sensitivity Reader has introduced the Pride Anthology, Mental Awareness campaign and we are looking forward to the 2025 Campaign – sorry, I can’t reveal that yet.
Our books are distributed through IngramSpark and are available through libraries and bookstores. Outlets include Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Koorong, and others. As a supporter of authors and small businesses, I encourage readers to compare prices and BUY LOCAL where possible. Buying directly from the author or publisher website gives more royalties and/or profit to these.
We promote our authors, books and activities through festivals, markets, conferences, book fairs and other presentations.
What type of manuscripts are we looking for? Those that make people feel good, help people, encourage life and laughter, and primarily stories that meet our aim of Helping Words Matter.
